About

Amanda Manitach is an artist, arts writer and curator at Seattle University’s Hedreen Gallery. Her work is informed by 19th century art and literature, Viennese Actionism, hysteria and secular ritual that appropriates religious liturgical forms. In practice, obsessive feats of drawing, images of Freudian eroticism and confusion of language each attempt, in their own way, to reconcile desire and nonsense, ecstatic impulse and futility. She has a degree in literature from Oral Roberts University. Her work has been shown at Frye Art Museum, Lawrimore Project, Bryan Ohno Gallery, Roq la Rue, among others.

Amanda received a 2013 GAP for assistance with material purchasing for a series of large-scale drawings based on manipulations of late 19th century French wallpaper designs.
