About

Amy Escobar is a multi-disciplinary artist working primarily as a playwright, performer, and puppeteer in the Pacific Northwest. She is interested in constructing inclusive spaces, practical magic, and conscious language in her work, leaning into her tendencies toward humor and horror to weave communal spells—spinning new tales with familiar lilts. She is a puppeteer at Thistle Theatre, which specializes in modified tabletop Bunraku and brings folk and fairy tales from around the world to local schools, libraries, and theaters.

Her produced plays include Scary Mary and the Nightmares Nine (2017 Gregory Award nominee for Outstanding New Play) and When You Wish Upon a Pizza, supported by 4Culture and written in collaboration with the 14/48 Projects parks program, which provides free theater for families in King County.

Amy received 2018 GAP Award funding to workshop and develop her play, We Go Mad, which draws from the themes and atmosphere of gothic romance and horror novels, examining the nature of inheritance and heritage as a woman journeys through her mother’s house of madness and her father’s house of bones.
