About

Amy Pleasant graduated from Biola University in Los Angeles with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Certification in Art and English Literature from California State University, Los Angeles. Her painting is rooted the figurative, expressionistic tradition reflecting a vibrant palette, volumed shape and pattern used to support an implied narrative. The focus of her work is shared human experience. Her previous series explores memory, generational transition and family relationships,  of who we are and what influences have made us so.  Amy has exhibited nationally and internationally, being one of twelve artists chosen to be recognized by Woman’s Caucus for the Arts in 2012. She is a member of Gallery 110, the Pioneer Square artist collective and has also received numerous grants as an artist in residence working with young people and adults in a variety of settings. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections in the Pacific Northwest.

Amy received 2015 GAP funding to purchase materials for a solo exhibition at Gallery 110 in Seattle in 2016. The body of the work for this exhibition will be rooted in personal experience as a survivor of childhood sexual assault. The result is an exploration of trauma and the nature of memory and self; looking back as observer and applying visual language to a life changing event. The exhibition will consist of paintings, objects, video and original poetry.
