About

Andréa Harris’ art practice gives power to the idea that reality is malleable, fluid, and constantly created. She explores the flexibility of reality though the relational boundaries between: the body, consciousness, psychological states, ideologies, and environment. Harris holds a BFA from the University of Washington and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio Art from Brandeis University. Currently she is splitting her time between Seattle and Seydisfjordur, Iceland, where she is a member of HEIMA collective.

Andréa received 2014 GAP funding to purchase two lenses for her digital SLR camera: a macro lense and a wide-angle lens. The lenses are needed for a three-month residency at HEIMA Collective in Seydisfjordur, Iceland. During that time she will create a digitally manipulated photography project. Iceland’s unique landscape will serve as a parallel to the human subconscious and transformation. The drama of the land in Iceland — alive and changing — connects to the subconscious of the earth through holes and shifting plates. It is the perfect setting to visually explore transformation of the self. As she moves forward with her work, the lenses will allow her to create high quality work for years to come.
