About

Angelique Poteat is a composer and the principal clarinetist with the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with many groups in the Seattle area, including the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Chamber Players, and the Seattle Modern Orchestra. She earned the degrees Master of Music from the College-Conservatory of Music and Bachelor of Music from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and has studied composition with Samuel Adler, Joel Hoffman, Mara Helmuth, Anthony Brandt, Pierre Jalbert, Shih-Hui Chen, and Arthur Gottschalk, and Samuel Jones.

Angelique received 2015 GAP funding to assist with her new work “Listen to the Girls,” a composition for orchestra and girls’ choir that draws inspiration from the current images and expectations that society projects on young girls, reflecting on its impact from the perspectives of the girls.  The piece will be performed by the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra (SCO) in collaboration with the Northwest Girlchoir (NWGC) at Roosevelt High School.  All SCO concerts are offered free of charge to the public.
