About
Ann Gerike writes poems that deal with World War One casualties and the development of facial reconstructive surgery. She received 2008 GAP Award funding for travel to the Gillies Archives at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidkup, Kent where maxillo-facial surgery was developed. To gain greater insight into the development of maxillo-facial surgery and its effects on patients’ lives, she visited the National Army Museum and Imperial War Museum, the Royal Army Dental Corps, and the Royal College of Surgeons in London to view and study 69 pastel drawings of damaged men. Ann was also the recipient of a 2008 Founders Circle Award.
