About

Ben Zamora is a visual artist and lighting designer.  He is one half of the visual art team LILIENTHAL|ZAMORA, who appeared on The Stranger’s 2009 Genius Awards Shortlist.  Ben’s installations and designs have been presented internationally, including the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, Russia; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York; Royal Festival Hall, London; The Lucerne Festival, Switzerland; Walt Disney Concert Hall; SUSHI Performance and Visual Art, San Diego; and locally at The Hedreen Gallery, Intiman; ACT; Portland Institute of Contemporary Art; and On The Boards. With LILIENTHAL|ZAMORA, Ben has created a new large-scale light installation which will be presented at the Frye Art Museum in late 2012.

Ben received a 2012 GAP to help with expenses associated with the production of a large-scale site-specific installation called APEX created in collaboration with the Intiman Theatre at the Seattle Center. APEX focused on the re-invigoration of the Intiman Theatre Courtyard by visually responding to the building’s courtyard atrium and activating the newly programmed summer festival space from July 1 – September 1, 2012. APEX featured a bold florescent sculpture floating above the courtyard creating a framing of the sky above and repeating the square shape of the James Fitzgerald sculpture base below. Central to APEX was the wide public visibility the piece gained during daily and nightly attendance to various art and theater events presented by both the Intiman Theatre and the Seattle Center.
