Britt Rynearson

Britt Rynearson began studying textiles in the late 1990’s with residencies in Indonesia and Italy. Her career has included two exhibitions with The Smithsonian Craft Show and a special collection of garments made for Julie’s Artisan Gallery and Takashimaya in Manhattan. Her work explores traditional Japanese shibori methods (dyed and textured silks) and extensive historical research to create a new collection of garment patterns.

Her undergraduate work in fine art at Scripps College culminated in a large silk sculpture and her graduate work at Seattle University focused on development strategies for art-focused nonprofit organizations. Since 2004, she has taught sewing and garment design to youth in Seattle. Recent work has focused more on the traditional textiles of her ancestors, the Nez Perce living on the Colville Reservation in Washington. In 2018, a collection of her blankets was exhibited at the Tacoma Art Museum.

Britt will hold a one-day workshop on the Colville Reservation where the community can share their textile traditions and make new work together. She will provide all equipment and materials and offer instruction and support.
