About

Brooke Matson is a poet and educator residing in Spokane, Washington, where she is the Director of Programs for Spark Central, a creative learning center. Eight years of teaching and mentoring at-risk youth deepened her fascination with both physical science and the psychological effects of violence and loss. Her first full-length collection of poetry, The Moons (Blue Begonia Press, 2012), documented the disintegration of identity that accompanies lost relationships. In 2014, Matson was the Poet in Residence for RiverLit, a Spokane-based journal.

Brooke Matson received 2016 GAP funding for Impossible Things: A Poetic Interrogation of Matter, which uses the medium of poetry to interrogate physical matter—particularly chemistry and physics—about the nature of human trauma, both personal and societal. With the support and sustained attention of a month-long Centrum Residency, I will complete my second collection of poetry, Impossible Things, before the end of 2017 and submit this body of work to various poetry manuscript contests for publication consideration.
