About
Catherine Grisez is a metalsmith. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in jewelry and light metals. She has exhibited at William Traver Gallery, Yaw Gallery, Salem Art Association, Gallery Marzee (Holland), Contemporary Crafts Gallery (Portland, Oregon) and SOFA (Sculptural Object, Functional Art Exhibition 2000 and 2002), among other venues. Catherine was chosen for Seattle Collects (2002), a Seattle Arts Commission Purchase Grant. Additionally, her work has been featured in both Metalsmith magazine and American Craft. She has received an Artist Trust GAP award (2000) and was a Poncho Artist-In-Residence at Pratt Fine Arts Center in 2000.
Catherine received 2009 GAP Award funding to obtain equipment and materials to be used in the development of a new body of work intended for a show in the Fall of 2009 at Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle. She has been using her skills as a metalsmith to create medium to larger scale sculptures for ten years. She intends to translate the techniques and processes of hollow forming, fabrication and electroforming into the fabrication of small-scale wearable art pieces conceptually inspired by her previous body of work.
Catherine also received a 2000 GAP Award.
