About
Chris Engman received his BFA in photography from the University of Washington in 2003. His most recent photographs involve large outdoor installations constructed in found environments. His work has been exhibited at the University of Washington’s CMA gallery and Jacob Lawrence Gallery, as well as the Photographic Center Northwest and was purchased by 4Culture as part of their portable works call. He recently had work in an upcoming new members show at SOIL Art Gallery in Seattle. Chris is also a resident set designer with the multidisciplinary performance group Degenerate Art Ensemble.
Chris received 2010 GAP Award funding to pay for travel to and from Eastern Washington, the rental of an excavator, film, film processing, printing, and compensation to the owner of the private property on which his most recent work will be made. Dust to Dust will be the title of a new photographic diptych and the fourth in a series of diptychs. The new work will be the most ambitiously-scaled of the set and is a meditation on impermanence.
Chris received 2007 GAP Award funding for purchase of a new Macintosh computer. He creates digital inkjet prints from large files.
Chris received 2004 GAP Award funding to purchase a large format camera, lens, and tripod in order to complete a series of constructed landscape photographs.
