About
Chris Jordan (Seattle) is an acclaimed artist and cultural activist. His work explores contemporary mass culture from a variety of photographic and conceptual perspectives, connecting the viewer viscerally to the enormity and power of humanity’s collective unconscious. Edge-walking the lines between art and activism, beauty and horror, abstraction and representation, the near and the far, the visible and the invisible, his images ask us to look both inward and outward at the traumatized landscape of our collective choices. Jordan’s work reaches an increasingly broad international audience through his exhibitions, books, website, interviews on radio and television, and speaking engagements and school visits all over the world. He was also nominated for The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation's 2013 Foundation of Art Award.
Currently Chris is involved in a multi-year project on Midway Island, where a symbolic environmental tragedy is taking place. On this remote atoll near the center of the Pacific Ocean, tens of thousands of albatross chicks lie dead on the ground, their bodies filled with plastic from the Pacific Garbage Patch. Returning to the island over several years, Chris and his team of filmmakers are witnessing the cycles of life and death of these magnificent creatures as a multi-layered metaphor for our times. The Midway film will take viewers on a lyrical guided tour into the depths of their own spirits, delivering a profound message of beauty, grief, reverence, and love. Chris’s photographs from Midway have already reached millions of people worldwide, and Chris hopes to reach a global audience with his film.
