Claire Johnson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Art and History from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She was a member of the Seattle artist cooperative gallery Oculus from 1997 to 2000, and has been a member of SOIL artist cooperative galery since 2002.

Claire received 2015 GAP funding to charter flights, which will enable her to take unique source photographs for her upcoming series of paintings depicting her observations of the Cascade and Olympic Mountain ranges during the high summer months when snow has melted and revealed mineral soils and glaciers.
