About

Coby Hoffman is a fiction writer, educator, and mother of two young children. She is the author of Desert Stories, a short story collection. Her second collection, Everyone Dies In This One Too, has been published in literary journals, such as Chicago Quarterly Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Cimarron Review, New Delta Review, The Macguffin, and others. Educated in geography and english, her stories often explore the concept of blank space and Nowhere, and the human behavior these places invite. Most of her stories take place in Nevada’s high desert where her extended family lives and where she spent most childhood vacations.

Coby received 2016 GAP funding for her first novel, Cakewalk In the Sky, which tells the story of a ghost town located just inside the Nevada Test Site. This funding will allow Coby to reduce her teaching load, maintain high-quality pre-school for her children, and focus on transitioning from published short story writer to novelist.
