About

David Jaewon Oh (b. Seoul, Korea) is a photographer based in Seattle, WA. He has graduated at University of Washington with a BFA degree in photomedia (2010). David examines identities that are often seem obscure but very much woven into our daily lives. David is inclined to work with very identities that has been overlooked by many but still worth taking a look at and furthermore, shed a light to offer a different perspective of an existing environment and/or scene.

David Oh received GAP funding for Combatants, which is a series that highlights female fighters by photographing (or documenting/showcasing) them in their respective training gyms where they perfect their craft as athletes. This is also the environment in which they find themselves as a minority, often trading blows with male training partners because there are so few female fighters to compete with. By photographing these athletes exclusively in a setting in which they remain a minority, he wishes to highlight these fighters in a hope to bring recognition and capture their valiant efforts to solidify their identity.
