Deborah Lloyd

Deborah Lloyd is a Seattle-based fiction writer of African American and Native American descent. She holds a B.S. from the University of Washington with a minor in anthropology. During her studies, she discovered a passion for both literature and ethnography. Currently writing her first novel, Bruised Fruit, she focuses on BIPOC characters straddling two worlds: collective ancestral memory and chaotic Western society. Informed by her mother’s experiences as a Black and Lakota child navigating Catholic school in the 1950s, she writes to elevate marginalized communities and investigate what lies beyond the pulsating membrane between the living and the dead. When not writing or working at her day job, she can be found hiking, reading, or enjoying a film at SIFF.
