Dorsey Davis received a 2003 GAP to defray some living expenses while completing upcoming episodes of an ongoing manuscript. A Plumber’s Diary is a series of fictional diary entries as told by Paul Zurn, its central character. “Culled from my own experience as a plumber, Paul’s work leads him from the boiler rooms of the Bronx to the kitchens of the suburban Pacific Northwest. Through Paul’s often struggling and spiritually lonely entries I am attempting to describe not only an aspect of myself but of the current American working class dilemma.” The GAP award will enable the completion of episodes 2–6 for publication.
