Erika Langley

Erika Langley is an internationally recognized photographer. A native of Arlington, Virginia, she attended the Rhode Island School of Design, cross-registering for writing courses at Brown University, and graduated with honors in 1989. She worked for newspapers in Virginia and was the recipient of three Virginia Press Awards before moving to Seattle, Washington in 1992.

The Lusty Lady was published by Scalo in simultaneous English and German editions in 1997 and is still available worldwide. Langley’s work has also been included in four other books. Her photographs have been published in many magazines internationally. They are in the permanent collection of the Seattle Art Museum and private collections. Langley has received grants from Art Matters, Inc., and the King County Arts Commission.

Erika received a 2005 GAP to help complete a book project, Washaway Beach, which documents the disappearance of a coastal town falling into the ocean. Langley bought a home in North Cove in order to be closer to her subject, a town vanishing due to the forces of tides and erosion. One of the fastest erosion spots in our hemisphere, North Cove is documented through photography and writing associated with specific sites along the coast where Langley has captured the gradual erasure of a town and its history.
