About

Eyvind Kang spent his youth moving around the Canadian prairies and Iceland before settling down in Seattle in 1991. There he met violinist Michael White, who focused his attention on the great jazz musicians, particularly John Coltrane. In 1998 he studied with violinist Dr. N. Rajam in India, which greatly influenced him. He has performed extensively with Bill Frisell and Laurie Anderson, and written arrangements for Blonde Redhead, Sunn O))), and many others. His albums include 7 Nades (1996, Tzadik), The Yelm Sessions (2007, Tzadik), and Athlantis (2007 Ipecac), featuring Mike Patton and Jessika Kenney, a choral piece with text by Giordano Bruno and Marbodius of Rennes. He was recently profiled in Showcase Magazine and Earshot Jazz.

Eyvind received a 2005 GAP to cover musician fees and studio rental for composing, rehearsing, and recording a new string quartet composition.
