Fiona McGuigan was born in Switzerland. Her latest body of work explores the process of memorization, recollecting, layering, cutting, and the reassembling of one image to many. By asking questions around how we access visual memory, and how we learn to draw, she delves deeply into faux-scientific research resulting in irreproducible results and indefinite conclusions. She has participated in exhibits nationally and internationally and has been awarded numerous residencies. In 2012, she created the annual Duwamish River Artist Residency with Sue Danielson.
Fiona received 2014 GAP Award funding for documentation, organization, and archiving of artwork. Recently her work has been about memorization and recreation. The work has an elaborate set-up, in which she creates hundreds of drawings and sculptures of the same image.
