About
Hanna Eady is a Palestinian-American theater artist. Founder of the first theater at my native village in Buqayah (Peqiin), he wrote his first play ART AND POLITICS in 1976. Moving to Haifa, he worked in Al Nahidd Theater and Hagefin Theater as an actor in leading roles. He then returned to his village to direct THE ROAD, about the 1987 Palestinian Intifadah. He wrote and directed four plays for Alhaneen Theater in Nazareth. After moving to Seattle, he founded New Image Theater, writing and directing world premiers of ABRAHAM’S LAND, THE LAND OF MILK AND HUMMUS, and BOSNIA-MOYA. In 1993, he returned home to create a docudrama about the internal Palestinian refugees in Israel and co-created SAHMATAH, MEMORY OF STONES. It premiered in the US, toured Europe twice, and was running in Israel and Palestine for over 18 years. His play THE RETURN, co-written with Edward Mast, premiered at Almidan Theater in Haifa, then premiered in the US at Mosaic Theater in Washington D.C. Back in Seattle, he started Dunya Productions in 2019, the only Middle Easertn theatre company in Washington state. Dunya premiered FLOOD (with his daughter Jenna Eady), LETTERS FROM PALESTINE IN THE TIME OF COVID, and LOVED ONES: FAMILIES OF INCARCERATED, all of which he co-wrote, directed, and acted in. He received his MFA from the University of Washington School of Drama in Directing, a BFA in Theater from the University of Wisconsin, and a BA in Social Work and Psychology from the University of Haifa.
