About
jade wong (b.1996) is an artist, musician, and cook based in Seattle. They practice world-building through interdisciplinary means–moving through experimental film, sound, craft, and performance. They are greatly influenced by growing up in their mother’s restaurant, care-taking for their elders, and the networks of care and resistance developed amongst their queer kin. Their experimental non-fiction work allows them to weave the experiences of various communities, examining the parallels, rhymes, and contradictions within them. Filmmaking to them is like cooking–an alchemy of magic, sensation, and transformation.
Their work has shown at Alchemy Moving Image Festival in Scotland, Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival in Jakarta, Harkat 16mm Film Festival in Mumbai, Chinese Film Festival in Hamburg, Weekend Domain Experimental Image Festival in Guangzhou, Antimatter Media Art in Victoria, BC, Onion City in Chicago, ICDOCS in Iowa City, Mimesis Documentary Festival in Boulder, Strangloscope in Itajai, Seattle International Film Festival, and Human Resources Los Angeles. They have been an artist-in-residence at ACRE, Inscape, Cadence Video Poetry Festival, and Jack Straw New Media Gallery. They are a collaborator in ANKOKU with hana shiozaki, a live sound and movement project improvising with experimental guitar, butoh, and earth practices.
