Jenny Hyde

Jenny Hyde was born in 1975 and grew up in rural north central Washington State. This background continues to influence her interest in cultural geography and established an emphasis on physical experience being part of her artistic practice. She works with sound, video, digital print, and multimedia installation. In 2007, she moved from New York City to teach digital art at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.

Jenny holds an MFA in electronic integrated art from Alfred University in New York and a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in Washington. Her work has been part of media festivals and exhibitions nationally and abroad such as the New York Electronic Arts Festival in New York City and the XTC Itinerant Experimental Performance Project in London. She is a member of Saranac Art Projects, a co-op gallery in Spokane that features the work of regional contemporary artists. In addition to producing and exhibiting her work, Jenny is an active advocate for the arts and takes part in curatorial and community projects in her current city of Spokane, Washington.

Jenny received 2010 GAP Award funding to cover travel expenses and supplies to produce her video installation G Train. When living in Brooklyn, she developed an interest for a particular subway line, the G train, which travels through eight different neighborhoods. Jenny intends to document the journey above ground while riding the train and walking the entire route, then below ground recording only audio. The finished piece will follow the pace and stops of the train. It is meant to be a kind of reminder that as one travels underground, one is also moving through a particular physical environment above ground.
