About

Jolyn GC is a modern and contemporary portrait artist. It wasn’t until after her decision to leave her career as a criminal prosecuting attorney that she rekindled her interest in art. Her signature mixed-media collage portraits, called Afro Jazz, serve as artistic contribution to the narrative that #BlackLivesMatter and reflects the African Diaspora with its use of vibrant African textiles and the beauty of blackness.

As the curator and owner of a digital art gallery, she enjoys helping emerging artists define their own artistic paths. Jolyn has participated in various festivals as well as both juried and non-juried exhibitions and is the recipient of several grants and awards. Appointed by the Governor of Washington, Jolyn serves as a board member for the Washington State Arts Commission.

Jolyn GC received 2018 GAP Award funding for the final show in a year-long, monthly pop-up series called “Perspectives in Portraiture.” She will create ten portraits of the participating Seattle-based, emerging black artists in her signature mixed-media portraiture style called Afro Jazz.
