About
Julia Harrison is an artist and educator who enjoys attacking small pieces of wood with even smaller pieces of metal. Her sculptures and jewelry have appeared in museums and galleries across the country and in England, recently winning the Members’ Choice award at the Wharton Esherick Museum’s annual woodworking competition; previous recognition includes a 2009 Pratt/PONCHO Fellowship and a 2006 American Bamboo Society Award for Innovation. Julia has led workshops on jewelry and carving at venues such as Pratt Fine Arts, the Penland School of Craft, Multnomah Arts Center, the 92nd Street Y, and Centrum.
Julia received a 2012 GAP for the purchase of new equipment to help facilitate the production of new larger and more detailed pieces that are often a part of a group of narratively-related forms. Julia’s work explores the relationship between emotion and form.
