About

Justin Mata’s multi-media and interdisciplinary artwork has been shown nationally at venues such as Marianne Boesky Gallery, ArtXchange Gallery, Five Myles Gallery, the Mission Cultural Center, Rock|DeMent Gallery and La Raza Galeria Posada. He received his BFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco in 2001 and his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He is a member of the Artist Pension Trust, New York chapter and Jack Straw Productions Artist Support Program.

Justin received a 2011 GAP to hire a production assistant for a new animation based on a battle from the Apache Wars of the late 19th century in Northern Mexico. The assistant will help in the extensive production process allowing more time for content development. He will also use the funds to purchase portable recording equipment. With the new equipment Mata can record outside and include a broader range of sounds in the animation.
