Kalina Chung

Kalina Chung is a multidisciplinary visual and public artist born and raised in Seattle. As a woman of color, she is very conscious of inequity in society, as she strives to make art accessible for all; in matter and in audience. Concepts are pressed for their visual portrayal, as materials are noted for their formal and unique qualities. The making involves various sculpture processes and media including wood, metal, glass, and found object. Her work’s content revolves around universal themes linked to human relationships, existence, and interaction—our tangible and intangible connection with the natural world.

Kalina earned a BFA in 2016 from the 3D4M Program at the University of Washington. Since then, she has produced public works with commissions from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Carkeek Park Advisory, Seattle Parks & Recreation, Lynnwood Arts Commission, and the Seattle Art Museum.

Kalina received 2018 GAP Award funding to provide studio access and resources, material, and arts course enrollment. This will be utilized to enrich the exploration and creation of her current project, “Sweat Shop Re-Labored,” which recycles clothing and material that is quickly designated as trash.
