About

Born in Manhattan, Laura Castellanos was tutored by her beloved musician grandfather Carlos Menendez. After receiving a full scholarship to Miami Dade Community College, Laura was awarded a Marty Colker Visual Arts scholarship at Florida International University, and has since pursued her unique vision and singular style.

Since the early 1990’s, Laura’s work has been included in many public art collections, including the Tacoma Art Museum. Other highlights include, the annual Bumbershoot festival poster, the prestigious Pollock-Krasner grant, the City of Seattle’s Civic Fence Project and a televised feature on the Seattle Channel’s Art Zone with host Nancy Guppy.

Laura received a 2012 GAP to cover the shipment of her work to the Moses Lake Museum for a solo exhibition. Her 20 large-scale paintings playfully reference Ancient Egyptian art and the exhibition is an opportunity to share the fantastical “icons” with a broader audience.
