About

Lauren Klenow’s multi-disciplinary work has been exhibited at SOIL Gallery, Gallery 40, the NEPO House and has also independently curated shows, including An Unfinished Edge, a group exhibition at Vermillion Art Gallery. She earned a BA in Art History and a BA in Interdisciplinary Visual art both from the University of Washington. As part of her education, she also studied in Rome and Paris.  Klenow has also been a gallery assistant at Howard House Contemporary and Vermillion, has worked with the Henry Art Gallery and was an art consultant at Martin Lawrence Gallery.

Lauren will use her 2011 GAP funding in preparation for an exhibition and lecture at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle this fall. As part of the research for the show, Lauren will arrange a series of trips around Washington State to gather source material and replicate the experience of a pioneer as best she can; traveling east to west stopping at sites along the Lewis and Clark Trail including Chief Timothy State Park, and the Alpowai Interpretive Center. Traveling mostly by herself, camping along the way, she will collect native Northwest plants and specimens, photographs, video, and sound samples of the northwest landscape (tree lines, shadows, bird calls, wind, rushing water).
