About

Born and raised in Sweden, Lisa Liedgren is a graduate of Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm and holds a MFA from École Nationale Supérieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Canada and is featured in the permanent collections of the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle University and Microsoft Art Collection. Using flax and paper as primary media, Liedgren’s work addresses historical and cultural phenomena by reevaluating facts and data about particular subjects, such as social and economic systems, resulting in a visual investigation of formal and abstract patterns.

Lisa received GAP 2016 funding to help pay for a workshop and housing at Penland School of Craft, NC during spring/summer of 2017. Receiving a GAP grant is well-timed with her desire to grow as an artist and further integrate a new medium and craft—fiber and weaving—into her practice. Immersed in a dynamic artistic environment, the class will enable her to begin a new body of work during the next year produced under the working title, “Why Women Bend Like Pretzels.”
