About
Lisa Wells is a poet and nonfiction writer. Her debut collection of poetry, THE FIX (2018), won the Iowa Poetry Prize. A starred review at Publisher’s Weekly described the collection as “a brilliant, taut, terrifying debut that renders the parts of the inner and outer world for which there is no real cure. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Magazine, Granta, The Believer, Orion, The Iowa Review, at N+1, The Poetry Society of America, The Poetry Foundation, and many other places. With Joshua Marie Wilkinson she edits a journal called The Volta, and Letter Machine Editions (a small but decorated poetry press). She received an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and has taught creative writing at the University of Iowa, the University of Arizona, at Seattle’s Hugo House, and at Yale-NUS in Singapore, where she was a writing fellow in residence.
Lisa received 2019 GAP Award funding to support the completion of research on a long form nonfiction book (under contract at Farrar, Straus & Giroux) about people attempting to live more sustainable lives at what may or may not be the end of the world.
Artist Trust thanks the Amazon Literary Partnership for underwriting this award through Artist Trust’s Corporate Partnership program. For information about supporting Washington State artists, visit here.
