About
Lydia Jewel Gerard is a Tacoma based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, installation and dance. Growing up in a home shaped by mental illness, Gerard’s work investigates the ways that space and light can be utilized to process, express and evoke emotion. Gerard’s installations and murals create physical space for catharsis. Her paintings and performance practices serve as vehicles for her own emotional development, leaving behind material objects as a bi-product of interior growth. Soft and saturated light, gently overlapping textures and transparency are all visual cornerstones of Gerard’s work.
Recent solo exhibitions include Hypersensitive at Stephen Gilbert Studio, Seattle; This Glowing Dark at Hologram Gallery, Seattle; Will to Live at A Gallery Seattle. Gerard has also had the opportunity to create several public art exhibits at Seattle Tacoma International Airport and Majnoon, Seattle. Group exhibitions include Written in Blood at Pilchuck Gallery, Stanwood; Another Hit at Flight Gallery, San Antonio and More Light at The Space in Columbia City. Gerard has been the recipient of the Friends of Pilchuck Alternative Medium Scholarship and has been the Curator in Residence at Lilith Pole and Aerial Dance in Tacoma WA. Gerard’s work has been featured in print publications including Holomag and Goopy Mag.
