Mandy Greer

Mandy Greer is a mixed-media installation and multidisciplinary artist. Her seductive work can be found in public outdoor venues as well as in gallery spaces. In the Northwest, she has shown at Henry Art Gallery, Bellevue Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, Kirkland Arts Center, 4Culture Gallery, Soil Gallery, Consolidated Works, and others.  She has shown nationally at Bucheon Gallery and The Lab Contemporary Art Center, The Tampa Museum of Art, 516 Arts, and Aqua Art. Mandy has received many awards and grants including several 4Culture Special Projects Grants, a 2011 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and nominations for the Portland Museum of Art’s Contemporary Northwest Artist Awards. She holds an MFA in ceramics from the University of Washington. She was invited to show her work at EROS, the 23rd International Exhibition of Contemporary Textile Art in Como, Italy.

Mandy received 2011 GAP Award funding to fund a multi-platform project that includes a six-week interactive “open studio” residency. The residency includes workshops created by her for the public at the Seattle multidisciplinary space The Project Room (TPR), an on-going process blog, a five-week residency in Iceland and a culminating show at TPR. Her project is a body of photographs, video performance, and wearable sculptural works around themes of weight, physical burden, and labor as external symbols of internal self-transformation, the act of creating/becoming of a broader identity beyond the personal, metamorphosing into the environmental.

Mandy received 2008 GAP Award funding for the completion of an installation at the Bellevue Art Museum. In her installation, titled Dare alla Luce, the viewer passes through and under a forest canopy of earthly paradise of eight green chandelier-like forms made of 1000+ yards of crocheted/beaded/braided/stitched vines, branches, and leaves. Mandy’s inspiration for this current body of work comes from Jacopo Tintoretto’s painting The Origin of the Milky Way.
