About

Martha Silano has authored four poetry books including The Little Office of the Immaculate Conception and Reckless Lovely (both from Saturnalia Books). She also co-edited, with Kelli Russell Agodon, The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice (Two Sylvias Press, 2013). Her work has appeared in Paris Review, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and North American Review, where she received the 2014 James Hearst Poetry Prize, as well as in many anthologies, including American Poetry: The Next Generation and The Best American Poetry 2009. Martha edits Crab Creek Review, curates Beacon Bards, a Seattle-based reading series, and teaches at Bellevue College.

Martha received 2014 GAP Award funding to travel to the UNESCO Rock Mountain Parks World Heritage Site at Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada, to participate in a series of three hikes that will allow her to view 500 million year old trilobite fossils. The hikes will allow her to write about a species of animal that dominated our planet for two hundred million years, then suddenly disappeared.
