About

Mel McCarthy runs a scrappy, independent production company called 1443 Films with her partner in Tacoma. She typically plays the role of writer, editor, and producer; and gravitates toward absurd comedies. Mel is currently in post-production on her first feature film, Wheel Force Go!, and is excited to produce more Washington-made films in her future.

Wheel Force Go! is a feature-length comedy that pays homage to nostalgic ’90s television like Captain Planet and Power Rangers, but with a sharp, contemporary twist. The film explores what happens when teenage super heroes grow up — navigating themes like mortality, disillusionment, and the existential dread that comes with aging out of the things that you thought defined you. At once absurd and heartfelt, Wheel Force Go! invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and connect through a colorfully clad coming-of-age story.

GAP funding will help to support the post-production process, which includes essential aspects like finalizing the cut, audio engineering, color correction, and visual effects. When Wheel Force Go! is complete and ready for the big screen, Mel looks forward to sharing some laughs with the community that made this project possible.
