About

Michito Iwata (also known as Yujin Oshino and Summit Dub) is a Japanese-American artist, DJ, producer, and cultural organizer based in Seattle. Born in Japan and shaped by the country’s diverse sonic landscape—from folk traditions and retro funk to jazz and ambient pioneers—Iwata’s work frames DJing and vinyl as both a living archive and a site of exchange, where sound carries information, memory, and possibility.

Since the early 2000s, he has been a central figure in Seattle’s underground electronic music community, curating spaces where deep listening and movement intersect. He approaches the floor as a collective organism, a site of fusion and transformation that reflects the spirit carried in his own name. Through his label projects (Soft Spoken Secret), he is building a platform for sound as storytelling, using records, publishing, and collaborative projects to connect artists across geographies.

Iwata’s practice also extends into consulting with independent labels and organizers in the Americas and Asia Pacific, building with communities that hold vinyl at the core of their work—an essential medium for depth and connection. By combining artistic expression with cultural strategy, his work bridges local movements to a wider global conversation about art, identity, and soundsystems as transformative forces in sound.
