About

Pete Fleming is a member of SOIL Artist Run Gallery, partakes in research with the Autonomous University, and lives and works in Pioneer Square. His work has been seen in Europe and the US, in gallery exhibitions, site-specific public projects, and festivals. It is held in private collections in Seattle, New York, Glasgow, and Oslo. His art practice is primarily concerned with the social and philosophical problems generated by a 24/7 society, wherein leisure, communication, and relationships are formulated through models of profit production.

Pete received 2014 GAP funding for travel, production costs, labor and professional photo lab print services. His project explores questions such as: What does it mean to be “disconnected?” Where does that disconnect lie? As a response to this thematic enquiry, Pete will produce a series of photographs, digital videos, and drawings utilising reflection, horizon, and fog. Travelling to the Olympic Peninsula, the Utah Salt Flats in winter flood, and Big Sur, this work will engage with the history of the sublime landscape and existential autonomy, and how this relates to the contemporary “post-ironic/post-Internet” era. This project will be exhibited at Seattle’s SOIL Gallery in May 2015, and will form a major part of his application for a Masters of Fine Art Degree program.
