About
Ramón Esquivel is a playwright-educator born and raised in Kirkland, and is of Mexican and Yaqui Indian heritage. He teaches playwriting and theatre education at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, and previously taught middle school in Washington DC, Brooklyn, and Seattle. Above Between Below, his play about bullying and technology, is touring schools through a collaboration between Seattle Children’s Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, and Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre. Ramón’s plays Luna, Nasty, and Nocturnal are published through Dramatic Publishing, with Luna featured in the anthology, Palabras del Cielo: An Exploration of Latina/o Theatre for Young Audiences. He thanks Childsplay Theatre (AZ), Appalachian State University (NC), Children’s Theatre Foundation of America, and now Artist Trust for supporting the development of his current project, The Hero Twins: Blood Race.

Ramón received 2018 GAP Award funding to support development of his new play for young audiences, The Hero Twins: Blood Race. Inspired by Classic Mayan mythology, the play is an allegory about inequality. Ramón will travel to Arizona to workshop the script with Dr. Christina Marin’s theatre students at Phoenix College.
