About
Robert Lyons has been involved in photography for over 25 years. He has taught widely in the USA and Europe. Presently he is a guest lecturer at the OstkreuzSchule in Berlin. His work has been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe and is represented in numerous permanent collections including: Addison Gallery of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum, Seattle Art Museum and the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington. Robert holds and B.F.A. from Hampshire College and an M.F.A. from Yale University. He has published numerous books most recently, Intimate Enemy:Voices and Images from the Rwandan Genocide – Zone Books 2006. He now lives and works in Berlin, Germany and Western Massachusetts.
Robert received a 2004 GAP to help offset the cost of creating work prints from which final photographs will be selected for his forthcoming book, Intimate Enemy. The book and its images are concerned with the ideas of genocide and human rights issues as they pertain to Rwanda in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide. “I have been working in the field since 1998 photographing and collecting information for the project. Co-authored with Scott Strauss, who is a PhD Candidate from UC Berkeley, the project is underway and we are attempting to collect all the material, photographs and actual interviews in order to find the right design format for the book.” The projected release is early 2005.
Robert also received a 1998 Fellowship.
