About

Rya Wu (b. 1993) is a self-taught abstract artist working in painting, glass, and wire sculptures, often combining these mediums and utilizing found materials and upcycled textiles. Drawing from their diverse background in psychology, silversmithing, life coaching, and jewelry making, Rya’s work invites profound personal reflection and connection.

Central themes in Rya’s work include death, loss, grief, trauma, self-reclamation, community, the immigrant and diasporic experience, healing relationships with our bodies, and honoring our forebearers. Her art transforms the intangible into the tangible, employing colors, textures, rhythms, and forms to visualize internal experiences. Rya’s creations seek to inspire deep, transformative shifts within her audience, affirming and celebrating those on similar journeys of self-knowing and expression.
