About

Ryan Allen McDonald is a ceramic artist, educator, and studio technician from Seattle, Washington. He began working with clay as a teenager at Green River College and returned to the practice in 2018 at Moshier Art Center, where he deepened his skills through volunteering, assisting classes, and eventually teaching.

Since 2022, Ryan has taught at Rain City Clay, managed Rat City Studios, and launched his business, Ambivert Ceramics. That same year, he apprenticed with Deb Schwartzkopf, an experience that expanded his technical knowledge and strengthened his teaching practice. He now serves as the Instructional Lab Technician in the Ceramics Department at Green River College, returning to the place where his pottery journey first began. He also maintains a periodic teaching relationship with Pottery Northwest, offering classes in wheel throwing.

Ryan’s work explores the balance between pressure and patience, utility and presence—creating handmade objects that invite reflection, encourage connection, and bring moments of grounding into daily life.
