About
Samantha Boshnack has been composing and performing trumpet with a plethora of musicians since graduating from Bard College in 2003. She leads two ensembles dedicated solely to performing her music: the Sam Boshnack Quintet and B’shnorkestra (with the 2013 release, Go To Orange), and composed extensively for Reptet. She has toured all over the world, and received support from 4Culture, Jack Straw Productions, ASCAPlus, Artist Trust, Meet the Composer, Earshot Jazz and Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture. In 2012, she was accepted and attended the Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute presented by Columbia, UCLA and American Composers Orchestra.
Samantha received a 2013 GAP to assist in the release of a CD of eight new works for the Sam Boshnack Quintet, an ensemble dedicated to performing her music. This will be the first recording with the group, whose pieces she describes as intricately woven soundscapes harboring deep grooves and punctuated, explosive improvisations. This album (released in January 2014) will help propel the group to the next level.
