About

Sasha Su-Ling Welland received a 2005 GAP to help provide writing time, and defray material costs and photographic preparation of the images for her creative non-fiction book, All This Journey. Near completion after ten years of research and writing, the book tells the story of Ling Shuhua and Amy Ling, sisters whose lives were interwoven with the social history of their day in China and immigrant experiences in Japan, England and the United States. Spanning nearly the entire 20th century, the book follows the women-one became a writer, the other a doctor-as representatives of the early Chinese women’s movement. Welland has just completed her PhD in Anthropology with an emphasis in Women’s Studies and hopes to complete her book this summer.

A Thousand Miles of Dreams was a 2006 Booklist Editors’ Choice and a 2006 Borders Original Voices Non-Fiction Selection.
