Scott Fife

Scott Fife received 2010 GAP Award funding to offset costs in the production of his project Ghost Prints. As a sculptor, Scott makes work constructed of archival cardboard and cast metal. Typical subjects are figurative—portrait busts, animals, birds, and mythical beasts, sometimes abstracted into clothing or furniture. In the past two years he has been creating large-scale ink washes, and has learned printmaking techniques. Scott plans to expand these skills and create an accessible public work using a combination of media and selecting four to six historic Native Americans of the Puget Sound region as subjects.

Scott received 2005 GAP Award funding to aid in the casting of cardboard sculptures into bronze and aluminum. Since 1999, he has been making larger-than-life cardboard busts, often of such personalities as Teddy Roosevelt, Bob Dylan, Marilyn Monroe, and Mies van der Rohe. These busts have led to public commissions and he will pursue a transition toward producing larger sculptures with more durable materials, allowing the work to be placed in exterior sites and public and private settings. The ability to make the molds for casting will also allow for producing multiples.

Scott also received a 1999 GAP Award.
