About

The canvases of Soo Hong conjure an atmospheric and dreamlike terrain based on her nomadic early childhood experience, which she evokes without illustrating specific details. Hong creates layered compositions-based subject matter from her daily life: dreams, places, and past experiences. Her abstract paintings uses mix-media with peeling, drawing, and automatic techniques. “Painting is a place where I could understand,” Hong said of her work. Hong graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK. Her artworks have been exhibited in New York, London, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Currently she lives and works in Bellevue, Washington.

Soo Hong received 2019 GAP Award funding for painting materials and video production, a project based on her “Raindrops” small painting series. This valuable funding will support her to work in larger scale and develop new moving images, and to present them in a new body of work.
