About

Syed Taqi (Mestre Syed) is the founder of the Seattle Capoeira Center and non-profit arms, Capoeira Life and Capoeira Vida. It is Syed’s mission with the support of his community, to give capoeira back to the community, uplifting others through its empowering elements of history, music, movement, storytelling, craft, and more.

Syed is a world-renowned teacher and practitioner of capoeira angola of the new Capoeira Angola generation, with over 20 years of experience teaching kids and adults around his home in South Seattle, where he also raises his 6 year-old daughter. His approach to teaching and playing capoeira is serious but calming and “zen-like”.

Syed has taught workshops across the United States and internationally. He has lived and traveled throughout 13 states in Brazil, playing and teaching capoeira. Throughout his work, Syed honors his master, Grand Mestre Nô, one of the Master of Masters in the international capoeira community.
