About

A compelling and original saxophonist, Wally Shoup is featured in the Encyclopedia of Northwest Music, noted for his ability to “draw crowds from diverse audiences due to his fierce intensity and explorative saxophone performances.” Wally has performed at numerous festivals, including the Vancouver Jazz Festival, Earshot Jazz Festival, Le Weekend, Birmingham, Improvised Music Festival, Seattle Festival of Improvised Music and Open-Circuit Interact. Among honors he has received: a prestigious City of Seattle Arts Grant, and recognition by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine in 2009 as one of Seattle’s 50 Most Influential Musicians.

Wally received a 2011 GAP to fund a vinyl LP of a recent site-specific recording of his music. Funding will also allow him to create a new painting that will be featured on the album cover. Seattle’s Prefecture Records has offered to release the album, but they do not have the budget to cover all of the production costs or reimburse Wally for his visual art contribution. GAP funding would cover these expenses.
