About
Zachary Zimmerman grew up under a volcano in the Mayan highlands of Guatemala. As an artist, Zach has always attempted to express the magical environments of the native cultures he was surrounded by as a child. He holds a BFA in photography and sculpture from University of South Florida, and he is currently working on projects that utilize his fine art background to bring attention to struggling indigenous communities in the Americas. His current life focus is to make art about the fading traditions of ethnic groups. Set to release in early 2018, Vital Liquido is a documentary about indigenous Mayan farmers in Guatemala that are dealing with complete loss of rain, drinking water, and crops.
Zachary received 2017 GAP Award funding for his project Vital Liquido. He will use the artist grant in order to pay for the color correction (color grading) and audio mixing of the film. After that he will add the subtitles which are already translated, and “ital Liquido is done. The audio mixing, color correction, and subtitles (which will be inserted after the audio mixing is done) are the only thing preventing Vital Liquido from being shown. He knows that once this film is viewed, he will have what he needs to mobilize support to actually help indigenous farmers with accessing water.
