About this Workshop

Join Susan Cole and Susan Jones of The CVC Legacy Project for a 1.5-hour workshop that will give an overview of the meaning, best practices, and fundamentals of archiving your artwork. Based on the Joan Mitchell Foundation’s Creating A Living Legacy (CALL) Program with Artist Trust, the “Susans” will go over best practices and management steps for the organization of physical work, digital documentation, and database building to protect, organize, and share your work, and build a legacy for your artistic practice. You will learn the basics of starting an archive, work through hands-on guided prompts and activities, and leave with the knowledge and resources needed to begin your own.

This workshop is intended for artists of all career stages and disciplines and will give information for both those looking to start archiving and organizing their work as they begin their careers, and those looking to start an archive of existing works from a more established career.

About the Instructors

Susan Cole

With a BA in Art History and a BFA in Fine Art Photography, Susan went on to work in one of the first museum digital imaging depts., at Yale Art Gallery and later moving on to the Seattle Art Museum to create their first Digital Imaging Department. Through the Joan Mitchell Foundation’s partnership with Seattle’s Artist Trust, she was one of the selected candidates to be trained in their first far-reaching, and much needed Legacy Specialist Training program. Susan created the CVC Legacy Project shortly after her brother War photographer Charlie Cole died unexpectedly. These experiences and training allowed for the structuring of the CVC Legacy Project collections and legacy management.
