About this Workshop

Join independent curator, writer, and advisor Negarra A. Kudumu for a 4-week workshop series on understanding the art market. During this series, Negarra will break down the structure of the art world to build a greater understanding of the underlying programs, institutions, and influences that shape it both regionally and worldwide. She’ll also share practical tips for artists interested in entering the art market and growing their careers, on topics including pricing artwork, building your network, and leveraging community and connections to create opportunities for your art career.

You will leave with a greater understanding of the underlying structure of the art world and commercial markets, and with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions on how best to build an individual career in line with your goals.

Topics Include:

  • Overview of how the art market works, and major institutions, programs, and organizations that influence and shape it, both regionally and internationally.
  • Considerations when pricing your artwork and identifying your audience.
  • Tips for identifying where you best fit within the art market, and strategies for connecting with galleries and art spaces.
  • Strategies for leveraging community and networks to create opportunities.
  • How to build a long-term and sustainable art career.

This workshop is open to artists of all disciplines and career stages, and will meet weekly via Zoom on Tuesdays, October 13-November 3. The ticket price covers attendance for all 4 sessions.
